Fathering Friday
Wild weekend, or complete washout?
Hey Dads, and welcome to the weekend once again!
We hope you took our advice the other day and got ready for Easter! Those baskets should be stocked and the eggs hidden away ready for the big day. Enjoy the long weekend Dads and we hope it’s not too soggy - down here in Devon we have a “rainfall warning” - wish us luck!
We hope the rest of you further up the country can find some sunshine to enjoy a BBQ this bank holiday weekend - crack a beer for us as our plans may get completely washed out this year!
Decide the vibe - hopefully, you’re already enjoying the long bank holiday weekend. Make this one about you, and those you care about. Many of us will have 4 whole days to kick back and relax. You may have chosen to go away - camping, caravanning, or to visit friends or family. Lots of you will be at home, either keeping warm and dry (like us) or making the most of some decent weather to tidy up the garden and get the BBQ out. Make the time off count - don’t waste it Dad!
Choose the chores - at this time of year it often feels as though there’s so much to do! From Spring cleaning inside, to tidying up outdoors, we need to divvy up the tasks and get stuck in. Find something that everyone can do, even the smallest of family members. A family that cooks, cleans, and pitches in together, understands that they’re a team and that each member has a part to play. No one gets to sit out or simply get away with being lazy… and Dad, cut off the Internet if you have to!
Food for thought - for Easter weekend you might want to try something new or different, or simply serve up a lovely meal for the family. Whether it’s lamb, ham, or a pot roast, there are heaps of ideas over at BBC Food: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/collections/easter_made_easy - main meals as well as baking options. There are also plenty of sweets and treats on offer in stores too, including traybakes, fancy cakes, and mixed selections of Cadbury Cream Eggs - yum!
Factor the fun - hopefully, you’ve got an Easter Egg Hunt planned! Whether you’re paying to do one at a local farm or attraction, you’ve set one up at the local park, or you’ve dotted a few around the house, there’s heaps of fun to be had whilst egg hunting. And if you need to burn off some of that sugar, look here for some traditional Easter-time games: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/easter/traditional-easter-games/
Daddy down time - over the long weekend you might be inclined to spend as much of it as possible with a wife or partner, and kids, and there may be some DIY or similar in your future. But, don’t forget yourself. Spend some time on you, even if that’s just 10 minutes - grooming, meditation, a quick workout, journaling, reading something educational, writing down a few things you’re grateful for, or, developing a new goal or project idea that has nothing to do with ‘work’ but is something you’re truly passionate about!

Cheers,
